Week 6 of schedule

So we're off by a week from trek but that's okay. I have situated the schedule to do the other stuff we missed last week.

Monday: Mazes. As a kid I loved to make up my own mazes. Instead of making them each one I was lazy and just printed some online for them to do.

Tuesday:  Because of a cold I didn't feel like being physically active so we did Bubble Prints
This was a big hit and fun to watch. It was food coloring in bubble solution. After it's blown you push a paper down on the bubbles to make a cool print. They didn't care so much about the prints but blowing the bubbles was a hit.

Wednesday: Tennis, Played at the park.

Thursday: Squirt bottle barber. Two kids had the goggles and shaving cream while the other two raced to see who could get the cream off first.
Doesn't Danika look like a storm trooper?
I think they had more fun afterward just painting themselves.
and spraying water into Flare's mouth.

Friday: Snow cones with homemade syrup: 2 cups sugar, 3/4 cup water heated till dissolved and then a package of koolaid. That and cookies 'cause the kids keep asking for them :)

TREK

Trek was great! I had a good time but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the kids. Kevin and I had a great group of kids. We had six girls and four boys. Then one of our girls had to leave because her Grandpa had passed away. It's amazing how much you can love the kids over the course of a few days. I guess when you walk 20 miles together you get to know a lot about each other. Here are a few pictures.

We were the Golden Gobles since our color was gold. Each family made up a verse to The Hancart song. Here was the two verses we came up with.

They said that trek would be such fun,
but that's all lies because I'm done.
I'm chaffing and I really stink,
and I have blisters on my feet.

I know it sounds like we complain,
but our faith has never been the same.
We're thankful for all of the food,
and the sound technician dude.

I didn't think about it ahead of time to get their address's so I'll have to ask the leaders for them. I want to have a "family reunion" and take them to Angies to clean the kitchen sink.

I'll always remember the last night as we asked each of the kids their favorite part of trek and a girl said, "watching Ma and Pa after the sister pull." We didn't know she was watching us but I had told Kevin that it wasn't pulling the cart that made me cry it was seeing all the men with their hats off showing respect as we came to the end. She said she was listening to me tell him this and then he leaned over and said, "you look cute in that dress." She said she loved that and wanted to have a marriage like ours. I had no clue that something so little could be so big to someone. Most of these kids come from single parent homes and to see a mother and father love each other is rare.
I'm so thankful for the pioneers and all they went through so that I can have what I have today.

Week 5 of Summer Schedule

Monday: Photo Treasure Hunt. The kids LOVED this. Andrew kept asking to do it over and over again. I made a list of items ex: take a picture of something blue, take a picture of the dog etc... They got into two groups and raced to see who could finish first. It was fun to see them work together as I made them rotate who got to take pictures.

Tuesday: Played Drag the Body: Got a blanket and dragged them across the floor. It's a lot of work for mamma but they sure get a kick out of it.

Wednesday: Pavement Paint.  Mixed 1/4th cup cold water with 1/4th cup cornstarch added food coloring (a little as it can stain the pavement). Another hit for two reasons! First it was easy and cheap. Plus...After it dried it was really gritty and Danika noticed when she rubbed it in her fingers it made them really smooth. So I rubbed my feet in it and ta da...smoothed calluses.

Thursday: Visit water park or splash pad.....well we did the swimming pool last week and we have already gone to the splash pad.  So instead I got a slip n' slide and small baby pool at Smiths. They had all their swimming stuff half off. Best nine bucks ever spent...except that the dog bit a hole in the pool grrrrrr.

Friday: Frozen Banana Pops. Cut banana's  in half and push in a Popsicle sticks. Spread peanut butter or honey over it and roll it in desired toppings. Ex: crushed nuts, granola, crushed cereal. Freeze for three hours.

Week number six will be a bit tricky as we are going on Trek. I don't expect Kevin's Mom to do the schedule although I'll have it if she wants to do it. If not, I may just move it down a week. I'm hoping I don't die on Trek ha ha. It's the 10 mile hike while pulling the handcarts that scares me.

Week 4 of summer schedule

Monday: Passed off some scout requirements. We talked about what makes America special to us. Looked up our state flag, bird and tree. Researched 2 famous Americans.

Tuesday: Played animal charades. We were also going to play Dodge ball but got tied up in hide and go seek.

Wednesday: Spray painted. I got cheap water bottles and filled them up with tempera paint and water. Then let them create their "art" on the long newspaper ends. You can get them for a dollar at the Herald Journal. Danika enjoyed it more than Andrew did but, the little ones got a kick out of it.

Thursday: Thankful for our bodies: 5 senses. I printed some worksheets at http://www.cool-kids-craft-ideas.com/sensory-activities.html I then had them close there eyes and had them touch things, eat things and smell things. They had to guess what they were.

Friday: We made pupcakes. It's pretty simple really, just make a cake mix and then fry it like you would pancakes. Spread them with frosting and voila, a yummy and fast food frenzy Friday activity.
