Can you say Allergies?

Our poor Lukie has the worst allergies of all our kids. Last year was really bad while we were in Missouri. Here is a sad little picture of him. He has such a sad face. Can you see the puffiness around his eye?Now look a little closer to his eyes. They look like they have huge blisters right on the eye. You can really see it on the right. Ouch! Do your kids have allergies? Is there something specific you use? I've used Claritin and Benadryl. If you know of something that really works let me know. Benadryl just gives him an hour of relief, poor kid.

I would take him to an allergist if you think it is really bad. They can give shots (not fun I know) that can help symptoms better than OTC stuff can. I think the shots are weekly? Don't quote me on that. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

My whole life has been alergy free...until 2 weeks ago. They are absolutely terrible. This morning I woke up to ichy EVERYTHING! I use the store brand of Zyrtec and it works good on me and Joseph. My sister and dad have had allergies their whole lives and nothing gives them complete relief, the poor guys. I now know how miserable they are:( I think different remedies work for different people and I am not quite sure how many kids meds there are. It might not hurt to find out if he is allergic to something specific so you can find a medicine that works for that particular allergy. Listen to me, acting like I know something...yeah right! haha

I took two of my kids into the doctor for their allergies.
They gave me eye drops and nose spray and said to get over-the-counter Zertec.
It has been much better. However, my kids never had eyes that looked that bad. Poor baby. I want to cry for him.
Good Luck!

Yep. We struggle with all kinds of allergies. I have found that Flonase and Nasonex nasal sprays work the best, and OpconA allergy eye drops are awesome for eye relief. The nasal sprays are available by prescription, but the eye drops are over the counter. Good luck! Poor little guy!

We use Zyrtec. It really helps. they take it at night and you only have to take it every 24 hours.

Jon has bad allergies and he likes Allegra. Sorry about today. Max has an ear infection=Max didn't sleep/cried for 3 hours=I couldn't get any of the packing done to go out of town this afternoon=Jon had to come home early from work and I missed the shindig. Hope you didn't freeze!

David loved an eyedrop prescription his doctor had him on, but without insurance the cost is over 100 dollars for a small bottle. Now we use Zaditor--which doesn't sting much.
If you have any question about other meds you can ask David on Monday. He's so allergic to everything that he's tried tons of various meds (both prescription and over-the-counter).
Good Luck! Hopefully it's a short term pollin...

We just love the chewable kids Claritin, you just have to keep using it through the whole season. At least the kids don't mind the taste and you only have to take it once daily. Poor kid. =(

p.s. How could you have not told your buddy ol' pal here about donut day? Next year we should make some homemade ones- that ought to be interesting. =)

I found a great nutritional regimine that REALLY helped me this year. I will copy it out of my book and email it to you. If I forget tomorrow, PLEASE email me and ask for it!!

Here's a natural solution that may work, if it's the pollen that's causing his allergy... My mom gets really bad allergies, and she tried this, and it helped (note, it's much more likely to be effective if you start this before allergy season actually starts, so maybe for next summer?):

Buy local unprocessed honey (like Cox Honeyland), and have him eat at least spoonful (maybe more) every day. The idea is that it's exposing him to local pollen where that honey came from, and reducing his sensitivity to it.

That's so miserable, I'm so sorry Lukie goes through that :(

I don't know if local Utah honey would work if the allergy happens in Missouri though!

Something I did on the mission when money was non-existent was shower at night. It washed all the pollen off me and then I'd lay in my bed with clean sheets. No pollen from the night before or the day. I like using hot rags over my eyes too. It helps pull the allergens out. He may not sit still long enough for it to do any good, but it feels good!
