Halloween time

I love Halloween, it brings back fun memories as a kid and well and some not so fun ones. I love it because well....candy. You can't go wrong with asking strangers for candy right? The not so fond memories are of dressing up as the same thing year after year. We only had two costumes, a bunny and a clown. I'm not sure why my Mom never got more. So my twin sister and I would fight over who got to be what. The other part I don't enjoy is how creepy it can get. Poor Jacob screams whenever we get near the Halloween department at stores. The statues that talk completely freak him out and he just clings to me. I want to make this time fun for the kids not scary. I love to dress up, Kevin is not as big into it. He's a good guy and knows I enjoy it so when we go to parties he will be a sport and dress up for it. So what are you going to be for Halloween? Do you have any traditional things you do with your kids for Halloween like decorating Halloween cookies? Are your hubbies excited to dress up?

My kids are the exact same way about the creepy statues. They try to hide when we pass them. My sisters birthday is on Halloween, so my mom hated how much candy we always got, so when we were little, we started having our own party. My dad gets donuts, and we hang them from the ceiling fan, and you have to catch them while its on. We play games like Mofia, and the Animal game. (everyone has to pick an animal, and make that noise, when you are pointed to.) Its hilarious when you have 20 people playing. We always would watch the movie "Private Eyes" its an old Don Knots and Tim Conway movie. So we tried to focus on the sillier side of things. My kids love to make cookies, and make decorations for the windows. By the way, Mrs. Dahle says hello!

Hey Sandra this is Amy (Karin's friend from Utah) but we are in Rexburg now. Anyway I was wondering where you got your big dot stickers for the girls room? And I also wondered how you got your blog list on the side? I have tried to add a blog list but I cannot get the addresses to actually add on. If you could help I would appreciate it! My blog is dawsonsinidaho.blogspot.com Thanks! Amy

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I don't like the dark side of it though, I'm more into the pumpkins, scarecrows and those things. I love to dress up. I'm sure you have seen my favorite outfit. My snow white dress! Growing up I had so many kids tell me I looked like Snow White and that's why I do Snow White. I love the looks from the little kids. Jim says he doesn't like to dress up, but he does. He may not do it that often but when he does, He enjoys it.
We like to make the cookies also.

I recently had my kids paint small pumpkins black, then we used black foam pages to make black wings and ears and white foam for eyes, to make little pumpkin bats. They turned out cute, and the kids LOVED it. I too love halloween our decorations have been up for a couple of weeks now! :)

Yeah, we like our neiborhood, our ward is hard to settle into though, it just split 18 months ago and it is now splittling again! Of our 600 ward members just over 1/3 are primary children under 2! Crazy!! I am way excited for Halloween, The last time my husband got to go trick or treating was when my oldest boy was one! So this is really his first year with both of our boys he'll get to go with us! His work schedule is always crazy!

Yup - I agree with everyone else. I LOVE the cute side of Halloween. When all the grandkids were too small to go trick-or-treating my mom started the tradition of having a family Halloween Party at her house with all kinds of fun Halloween food. This year we're having it at my house ('cause it closer for everyone) and Andrew is so excited he can't stop talking about it. He tells anyone who will listen that he's having a Halloween Party on Friday. I'm just waiting for people to start showing up on my doorstep :) Chris hates to dress up but I think it's fun, so my mom and sister and I have started dressing up together. Last year we were our own little version of the fairies from Sleeping Beauty. Oh, and we love to make Sugar Cookies and take them around to the neighbors!

Sorry this is so long - just one more thing, The one thing I miss about Halloween is actual, door-to-door trick-or-treating! Every year since Chris and I got married I've bought candy in hopes of seeing cute little kids come to my door, but they never come. Sigh....

Clint wasn't a good sport about dressing up for Halloween until we had a baby on the 29th. Every year this little man (who is almost 6) wants a Halloween birthday party. He has only one rule; "If you're not dressed up, you can't come to my party!" So, that changed everything for us.

I usually make the Halloween costumes, but I bought everyone's costumes for this year last Novemeber when they went on sale for dirt cheap. I got everyone's costumes, some decorations and some candy (to save for stocking stuffers) for $21.00. I know, I am such a tight-wad, but who cares?

This year I'm going to be Morticia Adams, we'll also have Superman, Spiderman, a ninja, a tiger and Clint will be "Mr. Smartie Pants." That one was Levi's idea. We're just going to pin rolls of smarties on his pants! I thought that was pretty clever!

Dave doesn't like Halloween much either. I've managed to convince him to dress up from time to time though. I'm with you, as long as you make Halloween about fun and not about scary its good!
Now, if I can just get these costumes done :)
